| On-Line Course: Introduction to Rotary Drilling Well Control Jul 1st - 1st |
|
Aim of The Training:
Who the Training is for?...
► Anyone new to drilling will find this training adds to their knowledge of the drilling operations and well control.
► This training has been designed for Floor-hands and Derrick-men, and covers those aspects of Well Control with which these persons should be familiar.
► Entry to this training programme is not limited to those who work on a drilling rig - new recruits working in the office for Oil Companies, Drilling Contractors and Service Companies are expected to benefit from this too.
► Students studying at College or University or those undertaking specific enquiry into drilling and well control at any school or institution would access further learning materials during this course.
► Other people who interact with this industry - be it for example through checking compliance with government regulation or making sales into the industry are also welcome to join in.
► The variety of Class-Mates adds interest to the learning and can provide worthwhile networking for participants. All people that are prepared to perform distance learning are welcome to join, young people and people of the U3 age included.
► Mode of Study?...
Location of Study: Students of this course will study from their home or in their work-place performing activities that they find to be appropriate to fulfil their study objectives.
The format of the training: Project work is set out for students and they are led by a distance learning coach or coaches.
The Method of study: Students will find out for themselves the answers to many challenges that are set. Students may glean information from colleagues at work, from company procedures, from reviewing equipment catalogues or by research on the internet; they may even set up their own visits to view equipment or practices not readily accessible to them in their work-place.
The Method of Learning: Students will prepare answers to their project assignments themselves. They may seek confirmation of their path of enquiry from their Distance Learning Coach. Students may also seek from their Distance Learning Coach some more guidance to get leads to help answer their project assignments.
Method of Presentation: Students will be expected to share their findings and to comment on the findings of their class-mates who also reside in the Virtual Global Classroom of this International Petroleum School. Project work is expected to be submitted in as many creative forms as possible - presentations, movies, technical drawings, annotated photos, scanned hand drawn diagrams, word or excel documents. (Assignments that are submitted will only be shared if the student has offered to have this happen.)
Class Networking: Students will be asked whether or not they want to have their contact details made available to these Class-Mates.
Confirmation of Learning: Sometimes the students will be offered the opportunity to take an on-line Quiz after the assignment has been submitted. They will receive feed-back to the quiz stating how they did on the questions.
► Time Scale of Study?...
The study and coaching is expected to be performed on a part-time basis and the student can continue as long as they need to. Every year re-enrolment will be necessary for those who wish to remain in this programme. A corresponding administration fee will be levied at that time.
► Final Testing?...
There is no practical assessment exercise on a simulator in this programme. However there may be the opportunity for practice in the event that students come along to a real-world classroom clinic (this is optional and the activity will attract a fee). Details about this option will be sent out during this course.
► The written examination?...
There will be written examinations providing certification through IWCF (International Well Control Forum). This exam is expected to become available in 2009 available and details of fees for this will be sent out when it becomes available.
The aim of this course is to assist in the preparation of candidates for this exam or for entry to other courses. Candidates will be prepared so that once IWCF issue a formal test then the student may be ready to take it. We will advise when this test is available and there will be a separate charge for the test. The option of an on-line screening test will become available so that candidates can get an idea of whether they are ready for the formal test.
The formal written test is expected to address separately the Surface BOP operations and the Subsea BOP operations so students will set out by studying Surface BOP Operations Only and then if they wish to go further then they can purchase further units covering Subsea BOP operations.
